Jan 6th, 2017 at 4:23pm

Good day everyone, another winter another project.
this year I am building A Nick Ziroli Turbinator-E jet. This is what it looks like after spending an afternoon at it. I will install RC Lander 70mm 3000kv 4S 10 Blade Dynamic Power EDF.
I will get back at it this weekend. more pictures will follow as it progress.  Grin

I see the parts appear to be laser cut.  Was this a kit, or did you come to own a laser cutter?

More progressing the Turbinator-E. Got cockpit done and the pilot show show up soon (once i find one). Canopy was a long process to get it to fit properly but that is what sand paper and beer are for. it only took an hour to hour and voila, it fits. The tail section is almost finish and sheeting of the wing will be done once I install the wiring for the aileron servo and retract gear.

Thanks Al, just having fun.
Yes, I saw Al Coolen's plane in Margaree last year. yellow and red. real nice plane.
More works has been done to the Turbinator-E. Had to find a pilot that would represent my father-in-law nicely. a bit of a comedian he is. He kept mentioning the giant Gemini would crash in no time as he was helping me building it. He felt bad after the crash in Margaree. So, for his 86 birthday, i decided to make him my test pilot.  Wink Cheesy Cool

OKI, plane all done, still not marking but that should come after the maiden flight. Took it to the street in from of the house for taxi trials and all looks good. Sound great with the 10 blades fan, it produces 3.75 lbs static trust (so the OEM says). Got to buy a scale to find out how heavy it is. stay tuned for the next post.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Shocked Cool Tongue

Al, wind god prayer was great, 10KM wind straight down the runway too. you can tell the newfie guy to get off his knees.  unless he is waiting to kiss someone's ass. LOL Grin Grin

Newfie dude, thank you for the wing bolts, now you can put them on you plane and stop being on the side line in Margeree.  Roll Eyes Tongue Wink

CQ, the plane was flying way better than I imagined. sound rough at full throttle due to the inside construction. it is a basic construction and the internal air flow to the EDF is not that great. something I plan to improve in my next built. the 11 blade fan sounded great once I reduced to 50% throttle. landing was great and glides well too. second flight was even better but on the third flight I was playing with the AS3X and for some reason it was not a happy ending.
something funny happen at the field that day. beautiful sunny day but the magnetic field swiftly shifted  causing a great disturbance in the G force and made the ground to raise about 12 feet in the air and collided with the plane. another effect of the magnetic  field variation cause EMI and remove too much throttle in the left stick of the transmitter while performing a thigh left turn for final approach to align with the runway for landing. wing are in great condition, aluminum wing tube bend and a nose job is required. Wing bolts were still on the plane.  Shocked Wink Smiley
I used 1.75" foam wheel and on grass field they did not last too long. I will keep the same size but soon be looking for better wheels.
One of the club member has a large scanner and a laser cutter. time for me to pay him a visit.

Chris, if you are interested in scratch building a EDF, I have a BAE 70mm plane. I will ask my friend to scan and cut the parts. let me know if you want a copy/kit. $ TBD.

Too bad about the third flight.
Thanks anyway, but I prefer to buy them already built. It's harder for me to screw them up that way.

let me know if you change your mind in building one.

Got to the field flying between rain days. re-maiden the Turbinator 70mm and wow. Did not have to adjust any thing at all. all trims were good. AS3X working great and behave very well once again in 10-15 km wind. Four flights and still in one piece.  Wink
No more turning on a dime for sure. Smiley

Cry Well, this was a great plane to fly. unfortunately, one wheel did not come down as the piano wire was bent and the wheel was stocked in the wheel base. I, not as good as Jon for landing on one wheel. I did get 3 point landing but wing tip does not normally count as a good landing. this cause a nice flipping, turning, jumping and parts flying again condition.
good news is all servos, esc EDF and whatnot are still in good condition. this nice little plane will be built again and will fly better. I will make sure to put in a better landing gear with oleo struts this time. Wink
