carbon fibre frames and wires
Jun 11th, 2014 at 7:52pm

I flew my T-rex 250 this afternoon and the cyclic started to become unpredictable. After I got it down I went over the set up and found a servo lead that the carbon fibre edge of the frame had cut though the insulation on two of the three wires in the lead causing them to short.

The moral of the story is, carbon fibre is sharp and with the vibration present in most RC aircraft it's probably a good idea to file down and tape the edges where the wires make bends around the carbon fibre. (the yellow tape "fix" in the photo...the lead still needs some tender lovin care).

Yikes!  Lucky you get her down in one piece. Smiley

I've had good luck using braided sleeving for the servo wires on my heli's.  Looks nice to boot!

I bought my sleeving on e-bay but like Paul showed, there are lots of sources for this stuff.

I like the braided sleeving idea. I even have a piece of the HK stuff laying around somewhere, probably should have used it like you suggested. Better late than never Smiley

Thanks Colin, have to check that out. Went over my 450 last night to make sure I didn't have the same problem developing somewhere on it's frame as well. One shorted servo is enough for this season.
