Hmmmm, now I have a dilemma Al.   Embarrassed

I feel rather humble putting out $150 or so to scratch build a new airplane.  After viewing that video it is very apparent that there is something wrong with my rationale.   Do I continue to scratch build or forego 66 future models and upgrade to a $10,000 IMAC model?

i got a kick out of that video.  Keep in mind that the 10,000$ price tag they are talking about is for the custom built top-of-the-line machines with the most expensive options.  You could have a top notch 40% ARF with all brand new equipment in the air for around 5000$...even significantly less if you can get an airframe on sale and and get a good used engine.  Still a fair bit of money but not too bad in the grand scheme of things.  Their will be 4 or 5 150cc class airframes flying in the Maritimes this summer and non of them are anywheres near the claimed 10,000$ price tag.  Their are lots of good deals out there...picked up a 33% Yak 54 for 400$ from Chief Aircraft....smokin deal.

That video was hilarious....It just shows what people think they need to pay to play in farmers fields. Even if you bought all that for the "lower" price tag of $5000 with some used equipment, that does not even add up to anything  close to what I paid for my last several models complete, plus Margaree combined for the last several years! But damn a 10 dollar plaque would be nice! LOL

Right on Jon....my 30% Extra was about $500 landed in my back yard and the engine was another $400. I'm still using the Foootuba radio I had before, and the only reason I'm looking at another plane is because this one has spent 3 perilous years teaching me to fly all over again... Lips Sealed   It's pretty well beat up. The engine tho still has another 20 years on it..
In those 3 years I've had an absolute blast, 1 third placing and 1 win (but no $10.00 plaque either  Wink). I love it, but it's not for everyone that's for sure. Do I attempt to justify or rationalize the cost - nope - can't.
Is it as much fun as chasing Jonboy  with my striker? Not even close.  Cheesy And I will likely have more FUN flying my new hurricane....
BUT, there is a camaraderie in IMAC I've never found in any other facet of this hobby - you call for me as I'm flying my sequence, and point out to me how I could improve a manouver....Then I call for you while you compete against me...kinda neat!

Sorry, Old Man Ramblin'   Embarrassed

of course they will be......puts a new twist on "adrenaline junkie"

Second greatest thrill know to man is flying - the greatest is landing....

applies to models as well as full scale....
