Title: joe's new flying machine
Post by astroflyer on Dec 5th, 2011 at 3:38pm
this afternoon was the test flight for joe miller's new flying machine.  awesome airplane of 1980's vintage.  powered by a ys 46 piped it has unlimited vertical.

Jon is building one also but he's a bit behind joe.  sorry you couldn't be there jon, so I made some pictures and will post a video later when I get time to edit it.  joe says sorry also.   ;D ;D

1. joe with the new machine.

2. checking engine (go epower and you don;t have to do this)

3 and 4.  flying shots.

I had a hard time placing this plane when joe and jon were discussing it but now that I see the color scheme I remember seeing it in the ZAP adds some years ago.

Nice pics Al, thanks for being the camera man today!  Got three flights on it and it flies great. :)  The snap rolls and spins are awesome! 8-)  This is the fifth Flying Machine I've built over the almost 20 years that I've been flying and the first that I scratch built (the other 4 were built from kits, but they arn't available anymore).  Not a 3D plane, but definitly the best sport plane I've ever flown!
It's the first time I've covered one in the stockish scheme and it had great visibilty.  Looking forward to getting some more airtime on this one.....

I think my dad has one of those in the basement unfinished or something very similar.  Always wanted to try it on electric.

Mine will be electric! I cant imagine it any other way. Mine has a scorpion 4020-8 motor, 6s lipo 5000mah and an ice lite 100 amp esc, and something like a 10x6 prop, but I have not tested it yet. All that will produce about 2000 watts, About 300 watts per pound ;D ;D That should do! My plane will weigh about 5-5.25 pounds. Oh yeah its almost done.

I think Jon is trying to destabilize the world's lithium-polymer markets ! :)
