Title: PA-25 Pawnee
Post by Bill G on Jun 11th, 2011 at 9:35pm
Originally assembled by Don M, passed on to Uncle Harold, then to me.   Just love a model that likes to snap on take-offs and landings – gives a whole new meaning to challenge.

This is a major repair of the E-Flite PA-25 Pawnee.   The fuse, as for most ARF’s is poorly designed and constructed – not built for a lot of flights.   Most of the fuse turtle deck stringers (1/8 x 1/8 balsa) were cracked, no fuse longerons, lots of lighening holes to weaken the over-all strength and many more problems became obvious once the covering was removed.

Added fuse longerons, rebuilt the turtle deck, new and larger tail feathers, and  new covering.

Now waiting for the new decals and good weather to test fly it.

Looks better than new! Should fly better with the new tail feathers too.

I like the new paint!

Beautiful morning here in Truro.

Took it to the soccer field close to the MAST site (where they rately do any flying) and set 'er up.  The grass was long but the Pawnee did a good straight roll and then rotated gracefully.  The Pawnee flew well with no tendency to snap or whatever.  Just like flying a low wing Cub – nice and gentle.  Really pleased with it.   8-)

So Don and Cousin Harold, I suppose you guys want the plane back….  Well forget it.  I will seriously consider it though, if and when, I have my typical brain fart and reduce it back to widdle biddie pieces.   ;)

Awwww, you figured it out Al....  so maybe it was me and not the airplane that was a problem.

You are going to love this a/c Shawn.  I have a decal for the bottom that reads: "Shawn is jealous".

Man, they've gotta kit that thing.  That or an Aero Commander thrush.  Or Ag-Cat or CA-28.  Or Dromader.

Was in S. Ont a few times over the last few months and saw these aircraft over the farmers fields every day.  Might be an idea to buy the ARF and strip it down, re-build as Bill has done.
