Title: Baby Steps...
Post by Sandy on Jun 7th, 2010 at 10:02am
On February 1/76, a lease was entered into between Atlantic Society / Radio Control Models and Her Majesty the Queen....blah....blah....Minister of Lands and forests for the Province of Nova Scotia. Lease number 2938 was for a piece of land adjacent Nine Mile River and abutting Grant Brook, just to the south of land deeded to Wallace Amos. It seems that while the club was using the Nieforth land, there was already conflict with Ducks Unlimited. This had escalated to the point where the landlord got involved..

In April 1977 the club realized the NMR land was not usable so that lease was cancelled. In the spring of '77 we approached Vice Admiral Allen of Maritime command Headquarters, to see about leasing some land at the Bedford Rifle Range. Not content with arguing with ducks, it seems we were going to try and tackle live fire..... :D
DND turned us down.....go figger...

In October /79, Atlantic Society/Radio Control Modelers again approached DND about using the old Mount Uniacke Radar site..(off exit 3, turn left on the old highway up several kms). At that time the farmers market wasn't there, nor was the little industrial park, so DND said yes.....provided we made the runways a little larger and were prepared to share with EAA [smiley=thumbdown.gif] :-X

In the meantime we were getting letters from the landlord complaining about our "interaction" with both Ducks Unlimited, and the various dog clubs who were now using the huge field for dog trials... >:(
