Title: ASRCM's 2006 Fun Fly - Dates and Ideas
Post by Danster on Oct 25th, 2005 at 8:07pm
Hi all. - I was looking at the MAAC schedule of events for this year, and it looks like the best dates that don't interfere with other events are:

Historical Date - 17-18 June 2006 Margaree Father's Day Fun Fly
1) 24 June 2006 - Open
Canada Weekend - 1 July 2006
Historical Date - 8 July 2006 HRCC Float Fly
Historical Date - 15 - 16 July South Shore FunFly
2) 22 July 2006 - Open
Historical Date - 29 - 30 July 2006 GAFF

So. We should pick between the 24 June or the 22 of July. With the weekend following the Margaree too close, I would rule out that weekend. Also, if our June is wetter than normal, our field may not be in very good shape. The 8 July is usually the Hawkin's (HRCC) Float Fly  day, so that day is out. The July 22 weekend is warmer and does not follow another Club's major Fun Fly, so the 22nd would be my first choice.

What do you guys think?

Secondly, I thought of an idea that I want to run past you guys. Years ago when I rode a motorcycle, we used to have an annual Toy Ride. Entrance was a toy (new) that went to the Children's Hospital. What I propose is that instead of any entrance or "landing fee", we could do the same and charge a Toy ($10 value or whatever) for the Fun Fly. The toys would be then donated to the Children's Hospital. The club would still foot the bill for food and refreshments and operate like the W.O.W. where a can is put out and you donate whatever you like. We could call it ASRCM's (First) Annual Toy Fun Fly, and would be a way of giving back to the community.

Ideas, comments, suggestions, rhetoric, sarcasm, praise?  :)

Dan

I would like to get a date nailed down soon so we can apply to MAAC for a sanction and have it published in the magazine and on the MAAC website as soon as possible.

{Edited - Forgot the HRCC FLoat Fly. Included a new open date! - Dan}

I think the 8 of july like you said if we have a wet june the field won't be ready. also the toy entrance fee is a awesome idea, we do the same at my school dances, you give them a caned good for the food bank and the submission price is cut in half. all in all i think this is a good idea

Sorry Adam, I adjusted the dates because the 8th was taken, so I ruled it out.

Sounds good, any Date is Fine As long as Its Not Raining

I Think That A RaffelOn The FunFly Day  Would Be A Good Idea Like A Kit And engine etc....  And Money Made from that can go to the children's Hospital aswell

Just a thought

Another good idea. Volunteering to be the Raffle commitee?  ;) Maritime Hobbies (John Hatt) has on more than one occasion expressed his desire to be the major contributor for prizes, etc. The interest in it is encouraging to say the least.

Al C. and I have been brainstorming a lot of ideas and would really like to hash it out with the rest of the Club members so we can begin to organize it.

Hi Guys,

Firstly, the idea of the toy drive for sick kids is awesome!! Kind of gives the fun-fly a little more meaning, in my opinion. As for the dates, July 22 sounds good by me. I will be in Florida's sweltering heat on the June Date.

ideas: my senior mind is blank as usual

comments: the 22nd of July sounds OK, and the "Toy Fly" is an excellent idea

suggestions: what about making the date open to the public as well, combining the fly-in and the open house...if we perceived the need, maybe Al's cadet class could come and help with directing traffic if we opened to the public...more exposure for them to model planes.

rhetoric: see page 157 of my soap box manual

sarcasm: the executive continues to amaze with their innovative ideas

praise: the executive continues to amaze with their innovative ideas

Thankfully everyone I know that has gone in June has had a   great time. Something like Vancouver in that they get an hour of pelting rain pretty much every afternoon. It just serves to cool things off a bit for more fun in the sun. As for Hurricanes...I think they tend to come in from August to November. Hope so at any rate.....;-)

the date is good. Also could raise some money for the iwk on a kit(arf). No need to confuse the matter with more than one item to raffle. Would not require much work just to raffle off one item. Could print up tickets quite cheaply. Also, price per ticket could range from 2:00 to 5:00 dollars although five might be too high for some.  the toy idea is good also. I will certainly help but we should start the raffle off weeks before the event so we have a chance to sell a lot of tickets to our friends and associates.

Concur with the Jul date...it'll probably have the best weather etc.  Could I suggest a fun flyish contest?  Balloon busting, precision landing, most spin turns?

The Fun Fly planning is going well. The flyer/poster for the event has been finalized and is available to download and send out to your flying buddies.

I have created ans added a new section to the ASRCM website, and if you go to the home page (http://www.lobstercove.ca/asrcm/index_2.htm) you will see a new button located under the menu bar on the left side. Go ahead and click it to take you to the Fun Fly pages.

If anyone has any ideas regarding the Fun Fly Information site, please drop me a line.

Please don't forget that we are still looking for volunteers to help out with the cooking, etc. See the list in the Private Zone.
